Intarsia and Stripe Knit Scarves

I have decided to look back at my final major project and use the black and white checks to take forward into new items, as I feel that the bold graphic nature works quite well. Therefore I have recently been knitting up a scarf using 100% wool, knitted using intarsia and stripes! Hopefully, if I feel this is successful and then I can make more and play around with the colour schemes and layouts to make a collection of graphic winter scarves! Hope you like...

More Jewellery

Now that I am back home, as well as concentrating on knitwear, I also intend to keep making jewellery when I get the time! So here are some new items...

Work Experience

I have recently just come back home after doing a months work placement with a knitwear swatch design company in Nottingham, Cast Creations! While I was there I produced some intarsia garment swatches for them, for both womenswear and menswear. This was a really valuable experience as it showed me what its like to work in a busy, fast-paced studio, and I learnt much more about creating swatches! As well as this, I was also able to consider intarsia edsigns for menswear, which I've never done before, and then produce. I really enjoyed creating the menswear and was actually rather pleased with the outcomes!! Now I'm back home I am beginning to design some more intarsia womenswear swatches for the company, which will hopefully be successful!
I'm going to be looking at argyle patterns for inspiration.. like some of the interesting designs below, by various designers!!

When I'm not busy designing knits I also love making jewellery, so since I'm now a graduate and have just got the pressure of the New Designers exhibition out of the way, I thought I'd get back to it!!...
I'm currently trying to set up a shop on Etsy, so if your interested please have a browse!!

New Designers 2012, Continued

Whilst in the big city of London I managed to squeeze in some exploring and visited Camden Market, which is now my new favourite place in the world!! If only I was rich I would have bought everything I saw!

Fun retro signage!!

Possibly the best shop I have ever been in!! Glow in the dark, music blasting out and giant robots... Whats not to love!

I love the designs of the signs around the market and the colours in them!

Amazing Moroccan bar!

This light shop in the market had gorgeous colourful glass!!

New Designers 2012

I have just been lucky enough to be able to display my final major project graduate collection at the New Designers exhibition in London, Islington, at the Business Design Centre! It was a great opportunity and amazing experience with so much incredible work displayed from graduates across the country, from print, knit, weave, embroidery and jewellery!

The design centre was extremely busy with graduates trying to display their work in preparation for the opening!

I decided to use a simple layout for my garment fronts so that they stood out clearly, and because of the colours and combinations of imagery I didn't feel it was neccessary to put imagery around them.

Our fabulous stand at New Designers!!

The two new additions to my collection.

I was very, very happy as I got the results of my degree and found out that I had achieved a 1st!! :D

My wonderful textiles friends also showcased their graduate collections, with amazing designs and swatches and finished products. Here is some of their work.....

Helen Whitworth's theatrical jewllery pieces!

Miss Zoe Ward's boyswear print collection.

Lily Atkinson produced vintage inspired knitwear.

Knit used to create contemporary jewellery by Rebecca Kaiser!

Childrens hand knit footstools by Sam Wilson.
